A team from the Second Faculty of Medicine, consisting, of two 6th year students, Miray Güney and Gonçalo Ferrão, and their mentor, Dr. Andrea Zajacová, attended the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress, which took place in Vienna at the beginning of September. While Gonçalo presented his poster, Miray's abstract was selected for a short oral presentation.

"Since the summer of my 4th year, I’ve had the privilege of working with Dr. Andrea Zajacová on lung transplant research. This year, I submitted an abstract titled 'Abnormal CD4/CD8 Ratio Prior to Lung Transplantation is Linked to Decreased CLAD-free Survival! to the ERS Congress in Vienna, where I was selected for a 5-minute oral presentation," wrote Miray Güney. "The presentation received excellent feedback from my supervisors and session chairs, and I had an engaging discussion with the audience. I was also among the few members selected for the Networking EXcellence Training (NEXT) program for early-career researchers presenting oral abstracts. These experiences have taught me the importance of collaboration and sharing expertise in medical research to achieve the best possible outcomes," she added.

"This year I attended the ERS congress in Vienna, where I presented a poster titled 'High CD4/CD8 Ratio prior to Lung Transplantation is Associated with an Increased Risk of Primary Graft Dysfunction at 48 hours'. After one hour of explaining our research and answering all the questions, I left with a feeling of a job well done," wrote Gonçalo Ferrão.

Both students expressed their gratitude to their mentor Dr. Zajacová and to Prof. Robert Lischke, head of the Prague Lung Transplantation Program, for providing the financial support that allowed them to attend the Congress in person.
