In November 2009 it was twenty years since the first haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in a child in Czechoslovakia was performed. At the same time, the chief doctor of the Transplant Unit of the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, Assoc. Prof. Petr Sedláček, MD, CSc., was successfully appointed as Professor. His inauguration lecture was entitled ‘Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation with the use of alternative donors’.
