On the 14th of this month, a Christmas concert was organized for colleagues and friends of the 2nd Medical Faculty. Taking place in the venerable Great Hall in Carolinum, the evening was a mix of Christmas-inspired melodies, as well as modern classical music.
The evening was divided into two halves. The concert was opened by a piece by Czech composer O. Macha. The old standard, Irving Berlin's ‘White Christmas’ as well as a Balkan/Gypsy-inspired piece by Czech composer Sylvie Bodorova followed. The second half contained perhaps the most well-received piece of the night, ‘Ancient Airs and Dances’ by O. Respighi.
An appreciative audience, headed by the dean, Assoc. Prof. Ondrej Hrusak, MD, PhD, consisted mostly of 2nd fac staff members with a somewhat poor turnout from the student body, considering the quality of the music that was on offer...!

Surprising was the young age of all the musicians involved. Chamber orchestra Quattro (rather more than four), who's high caliber were apparent to all, were led by their excellent conductor, Marek Stilec. Surely, great things are expected of him!

Irvin Venys on clarinet showed his versatility playing a variety of styles of classical music. While Soprano, Anna Trahova, even if at times her voice was slightly quiet in the large auditorium, displayed the quality of her classical training admirably.

A long applause at the end, followed by an encore, was testament to an evening most enjoyed by all.

We look forward to faculty concert in next year!
