25 September 2024 / At the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University we warmly welcomed new Erasmus students who will start their winter semester here. Approximately thirty of them from different European countries attended.
The students were welcomed by the Vice Dean for International Affairs, the Erasmus Programme Coordinator provided them with introductory information about the course of the semester, the lecture schedule and opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, also a representative of the Prague Erasmus Student Network spoke about the opportunities offered by his organisation.
The orientation programme continued at UK Point in Celetná and ended with an evening sitting with buddies. On the weekend of 27 September, as part of the faculty-wide Welcome Day organised by the Motolák Association, Erasmus students took a tour of the Motol campus.
We asked several of them why they chose Prague and the Second Faculty of Medicine:
I go to the Czech Republic to visit my grandmother and grandfather for holidays. I wanted to spend more time here and get to know more people from Prague and the culture - it's the capital, but it's not as big as other capitals. Our university has Charles University as a partner and I heard from friends that the 2nd Medical Faculty is good, although not as big as the First. I'm curious about it. In Germany we have a slightly different health system and I'd like to hear what the locals think about things like health insurance and such.
V Německu máme trochu jiný zdravotní systém a ráda bych slyšela, co si místní myslí třeba o zdravotním pojištění a takových věcech.

I’ve been traveling here a couple of times and I really love the beautiful city of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. That was my main reason. The Second Faculty has a partnership with my home university. I want to get better at speaking and working in English in medical terms, to study internationally, get to know a different system, how the university works here, and just intercultural exchange. That’s what I'm looking forward to the most.

We heard that Prague was a city of culture and a lot of international students come here to study. Also we’ve seen Prague was ranked as one of the best university cities. So it was really an attractive offer to come here. Thankfully there wasn't much competition.

I wanted to see another city and culture and my doctor told me Charles University is a quality university. I think Prague is a really nice place for Erasmus students. I´d like to see as much as I can. The Prague Old Town, the church, bridges and everything. We live in student dormitories Hvězda, with a nice prospect around and the park.

I chose the Second Faculty because I wanted to study in English, the exams you do here are very similar to those we do in Italy and Prague is a beautiful city. Beside Prague, I was considering universities in Greece, Romania or Belgium. Also I heard here it's very practical, and I would like to get a lot of practice – and to have a lot of fun! We already took a city tour, it was very interesting, especially the architecture...
