Departmental Focus:
Our Department of Physiology is one of the pillars of co-called “theoretical” disciplines (i.e. teaching and research are independent of direct contact with patients at clinics) at the Second Faculty of Medicine. The gaol of physiology is to understand how the body functions – from the molecular to the whole organism level. Together with closely related and partly overlapping disciplines such as biochemistry, immunology, or molecular biology, it builds up on the studies of structure (morphological disciplines) and prepares for understanding of dysfunction in disease states (especially pathophysiology).
The Department performs:
- Physiology teaching of General medicine students (in Czech and English)
- Physiology teaching in Bc programs in Physiotherapy, General nursing and Pediatric nursing(only in Czech)
- PhD studies (PhD)
- Research in epilepsy
- Research in pulmonary and fetoplacental blood circulation
