The lecture will be delivered by Karel Svoboda, Ph.D., a Prague-born Cornell and Harvard University graduate (1988, 1994), who is the Vice President and Executive Director of the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics. For his role in the invention, refinement and use of two-photon microscopy to provide detailed, dynamic images of activity in individual nerve cells, dendrites and synapses, Dr. Svoboda was awarded a prestigious Brain Prize from the Lundbeck Foundation (2015). His work has helped to transform the study of the development, plasticity and functional circuitry of the brain.
