Preparations for this year's Academic Conference are wrapping up now. This year, there were a record number of 125 abstracts entered by doctors and postgraduate students, to the Scientific Committee of which 24 abstracts were selected to be presented for the event. This year the lectures are divided roughly into monothematic units. By this way, there will be many first-class posters, about 20 of them in English in fact! Therefore, the English students are also encouraged to have a look and discuss the selected posters with the authors.
Guest speakers include, Dr. Victor Černý from the Archaeological Institute of the ASCR and Dr. Stanislav Komárek of the Faculty of Science. Dr. Černý will talk about archeo-genetics, and tell us how molecular genetics help to reveal archaeological secrets such as the patterns of migration of nations. Naturalist and philosopher Dr. Komarek will reflect on change and what we believe in the modern world. We also have young stars of our medical faculty coming to present: Gynecologist Dr. Halaška, Transplantologists Dr. Sedláček and Dr. Seeman, Molecular Microbiologist/Pediatrician Dr. Dřevínek. For all program details, please visit here.
If you think that there will only be the lectures at the Scientific conference, fear not, for there is more! Live readings will be presented from students of the Mathematics and Physics faculty of Charles University. In the ‘Two Poets and a writer of Math/Physics' section, readings will be presented by Vít Janota, Igor Malijevský and Karel Kuna.
As every year, there will also be the traditional Motol mile running race organized by the Institute of Physical Education and Motolák. If interested, please click here to register: Register.
But the program doesn’t end there. Those who are also looking forward to something other than the conference can also attend the Final After-party. Club Dr. Vojak will be the venue on the final day of the conference and all are welcome to come. Those who attend the conference and the party will be able to benefit (like last year) from the tickets that will be issued by attentive listeners at the end of each section. Just like last year, attendees will be tested on questions from the conference. So, be sure to pay attention! Prizes will be distributed, including the first prize which will be a purple iPod Nano (16GB). There will also be the opportunity to purchase conference T-Shirts and coats which will be adorned with the beautiful logo of our great faculty of medicine!
The Conference starts on Wednesday 7. 4. 2010 at 10.30 am, in which all classes will be canceled after 10.00 am, so that there should be no excuse that students and teachers alike may be able to participate. We look forward to seeing you there!
