The ladies in evening gowns, the gentlemen in elegant suits: everywhere you look you can see immaculate hairstyles, welcoming smiles and a great atmosphere. There's a feeling of nervous expectation, but also of pride and respect. The 61st Faculty Ball took place on Saturday March 1st at the National House in Vinohrady, as is now traditional, and once again it was a memorable evening!
All the guests walked along the red carpet to the Majakovsky Hall down a mirrored corridor decorated in gold and marble. Images celebrating the history of Vinohrady looked down on us from the ceiling. A little lower down we admired the gorgeous chandeliers, any of which could easily have inspired Gaston Leroux and his famous Phantom of the Opera. Everyone waited impatiently for 8 o'clock and the grand opening of the Ball.
And away we go! The Ball is traditionally opened by a speech from the Dean. Today, for the first time, the ceremony was carried out by Professor Vladimír Komárek, who was inaugurated as Dean only a month ago. He wishes everyone a marvellous evening and then makes way for the first dance, given by Ondřej Mock and Jana Kudrnovská. There then follows a series of dances to the accompaniment of the B. N. Band Dance Orchestra. And at last we see that our medics and teachers can do more than just read books and huddle over human bodies. Some of their performances would be good enough for a dance competition.
At exactly half past nine it's time for one of the evening's main events: the announcement of the winners of the Teacher of the Year competition, as voted for by the students. The Dean, naturally enough, awarded the prizes on behalf of the Faculty, and representing Motolák were Michael Svatoň and Tereza Cihlářová. And which teachers won the prestigious award this year?
