1) Introduction and review of minutes

 
Doc. MUDr. Ondřej Hrušák, Ph.D. initiated this meeting of the academic senate by welcoming all present members of the senate. He also introduced guests prof. RNDr. V. Pelouch, CSc., doc. MUDr. P. Zoban, CSc. and Ing. E. Kuželová.
 
The review of prior minutes completed without comments.

 

2) Remarks of senior faculty

  1. Vice dean Pelouch presented to the senate for approval information concerning admissions for the academic year 2005/2006, which the senate approved by a vote of (17-0-0). The material is included by reference.
     
    The senate discussed the publication of answers to admission exam sample questions, and was inclined to keep them private. The question was deferred to the next meeting of the senate in October.

  1. Vice dean Zoban informed the senate of dr. Valkov's proposal to increase the length of clinical studies in the 5th year by one week. Vice dean Zoban asked the student's union to issue an opinion, and the senate will consider the matter during it's October meeting.
  2. A list of required practical skills will be formulated and issued to 3rd and later year students.

 

3) Electronic registration of students for exams

 
Prof. MUDr. Martin Vízek, CSc. presented this proposal:
 
The academic senate asks the senior faculty to consider implementing an electronic system, with adequate safeguards, for communication between students and the administration. We envision a system that will be used to register for exams, etc. This system must control access to sensitive information through the identification of users. A student's university identification number could by used to accomplish this.
 
The proposal was approved by a vote of (17-0-0).

 

4) Election of the president of the student's union

 
Due to the resignation of Michal Pelíšek, Ondřej Čakrt, Tomáš Tvaroh and Filipe V.L. Cabrita, were the following candidates elected to the senate:

  1. For the academic senate of the 2nd medical faculty of Charles' University:
    Jaroslava Schwabová
    Pavol Dovjak
    Martin Švehlík
    Alayna Jaques
     
  2. For the academic senate of Charles' University:
    David Major
    Přemysl Falt
     
  3. The student's union of the senate nominated two candidates for president of the student's union: David Major, Veronika Hernychova.
     
    By secret ballot, the president was elected
    • David Major: 9
    • Veronika Hernychová: 6
       
    By secret ballot, the vice president was elected
    • Veronika Hernychová: 8
       
    Thereby, David Major won the presidency, and Veronika Hernychová the vice presidency.
     

Doc. Škába thanked, by name, previous members of the student union for providing their contributions, and executing their responsibilities. He thanked Michal Pelíšek in particular.

 

5) Miscellaneous

 

  1. During the October meeting, the senate will consider revisions to election procedures for the office of faculty dean, as well as senate membership.
     
  2. By recommendation of the international student's representative, the senate considered the matter of increasing the length of Czech instruction into the 6th year. A representative of the language department indicated that students have little time or interest in learning Czech. The senate asks the senior faculty for stricter control of international student testing and attendance, and reminds those actively testing students that 4th–6th year students need to be able to take patient's medical histories.
     
  3. In closing, MUDr. Richard Škába, CSc. provided the academic senate of Charles' University with further information.
     
  • The next meeting of the academic senate will take place on Wednesday, the 15th of September 2004 at 14.30 in the small left faculty's lecture hall.
  • The minutes were sent to the language department for translation and posting to the international student's web site on 26. 8. 2004.
