The ISP is the main document specifying the content of a doctoral student’s entire studies. Doctoral students create the ISP in collaboration with their supervisors so that the document meets the requirements of the Code of Study and Examination of Charles University and the specific requirements of the given study programme.
The ISP is entered into the student information system (SIS) during the first year of doctoral studies according to the academic calendar. Several emails, usually accompanied by a manual, inform both students and supervisors about the deadline and instructions. To enter the SIS, students need to obtain their credentials – in case they do not have valid ones from previous studies at CUNI – at CU Point.
All study requirements must be outlined in the standard study period, i. e. 4 years, regardless of the study form.
The student and their supervisor will outline:
- in accordance with the study requirements of the respective SAB all the courses, a state doctoral exam, and dissertation defence, including the expected year of its fulfilment
- English language exam (D0400003), if the SAB requires it. You can find more info about that at the Department of Languages website
- Scientific conference (DS002) which takes place annually at the Second Faculty of Medicine, and which is a compulsory requirement for all doctoral students, usually fulfilled in the 4th year with the presentation of dissertation research
- Internship (DS025), in accordance with the respective SAB requirements
- Publications in accordance with the respective SAB requirements
- State Doctoral Exam (D0400001; usually sat in the 3rd year)
- Dissertation Defence (D0400002; outlined in the 4th year)
- The student also specifies the steps in dissertation research and writing
The dissertation project should include the following points:
- Definition of the topic and formulation of the thesis
- Objectives, hypotheses
- Methodology
- Data source
- Information on data collection and processing
- Time schedule for each particular step
- Bibliography
- Expected use of results
After completion, the student forwards their ISP outline to the supervisor, who will forward it to the SAB. The approved ISP is binding. The student may amend it during the annual assessment, where any changes may be requested and must be justified and approved by the supervisor and the SAB. Any changes are binding after approval.
