The student graduates, and therefore may use their academic title, from the day of the successful defence. An electronically signed confirmation of graduation can be generated from SIS after the officer receives the defence protocol and enters the grade into SIS (usually within two weeks). If you need a confirmation with a stamp and signature, please contact your PhD officer or stop by in our office hours. The diploma and diploma supplement (transcript of records) is awarded at the graduation ceremony, which usually takes place twice a year – in May and November.
The graduation ceremony can be done independently for our faculty only, or jointly with other faculties of medicine. We inform all students about the date and time of the graduation ceremony by email. The dates of graduation ceremonies are set independently by the Rectorate; unfortunately we cannot influence them anyhow. If you can’t make it to the ceremony, please let you officer know; participation is not mandatory.
If you do not participate in the ceremony, you can pick up your diploma after the ceremony date at the Rectorate.
The diploma supplement is issued in accordance with Section 57 of Act 111/1998 Sb. on higher education institutions, centrally as a standardized output of the Charles University Information System. The supplement describes the nature, content, level and status of the studies completed by the holder of the diploma supplement, on which the acquired qualification is based. The supplement is a useful accompaniment to the holder’s standard diploma certificate. It can be used both nationally and internationally as an instrument to facilitate academic and professional mobility and to support the recognition of qualifications. The diploma supplement is issued as a bilingual document (Czech-English). It is provided automatically and free of charge to all graduates.
The diploma copy can be obtained at the Charles University archive. You can find more info here.
